International Flights Are ON, But Are We Ready To Fly?

"I wish I was a postcard; for under Rs. 100, I could travel to any location in the world." - Anonymous

Indian has opened up International flights at 100% capacity. That’s pretty good news not only for the post Covid roughed-up travel & tourism industry but also for the Corporates who had to put all their travel plans and meetings on hold or move to virtual. Covid had brought all of these to a near-standstill for last two years, and no one was sure when it would restart.

The new travel norm with Covid into picture was a shift to vacation rentals over hotels, driving rather than flying, and an increase in the use of travel insurance and personal travel advisors.

Though the flights have opened up, we have to be always prepared for any such pandemic waves around the corner (God forbid, it shouldn't be). We shall need to follow the protocols as responsible travelers so as to not inconvenience others and ourselves. Remember, Covid can still be transmitted by careless infected passengers. Mask up always and be generous on the hand sanitizers.

It may not be just a pandemic that can stop international flights again. Wars can stop the flights too. With the war still continuing between Russia and Ukraine, the risks are multifold and we shouldn't take the situation lightly.

Plan your travel, include Risk Assessment into your travel plans and have contingencies in place. Remember, International Travel is not going to be the same as before. For corporates, it is more important that they act responsibly and follow the protocols based on the assessed risks, keeping in mind the travel related internal policies which are defined based on business continuity strategies. Bottom line is that we all take intelligent and calculated risks.
